17.30 - 17.35 Chairman's Intro: Guy Coughlan, Chief Risk Officer, USS

Guy is Chief Risk Officer at the Universities Superannuation Scheme (USS), a UK pension plan with assets of over GBP60 billion. Guy joined USS in January 2015 as a member of the executive team to set up the group risk function. He is also a member of the executive team of USS Investment Management, the investment subsidiary of USS and chair of the Group Risk Committee. His previous role was at Pacific Global Advisors (a subsidiary of Pacific Life Insurance Company) where he was Chief Risk and Analytics Officer. Prior to that he held several senior global roles at JP Morgan, where he spent 17 years and finished as European Head of the Pension Advisory Group. In the mid-1990s he was a member of J.P. Morgan's RiskMetrics team and led the development of the first general-purpose commercial value-at-risk system. He also founded and led the bank's Global ALM Advisory group, helped to found a fiduciary management business for US pension plans (that was later sold to Pacific Life) and set up J.P. Morgan's longevity risk transfer business. Guy holds a D.Phil. (i.e., PhD) from Oxford University, a BSc (Hons) from the University of Western Australia and an MBA from Henley Business School. He is named as an inventor on a number of US patents related to financial risk management.

17.35 - 18.00 Elaine Torry, Senior Investment Consultant, Hymans Robertson

Elaine is an Actuary and Senior Investment Consultant and has been with Hymans Robertson for over 10 years. Elaine is responsible for delivering investment advice to both private and public sector clients. Her role involves working with all members of the investment practice and wider Firm to provide advice to trustees on investment strategy, investment structure, investment managers, investment monitoring and governance issues.




18.00 - 18.25 Hannah Simons, Head of Fiduciary Management, Schroders

Hannah is responsible for ensuring that Schroders' overall FM service meets the needs of clients. Hannah joined Schroders in November 2015. Prior to joining Schroders, Hannah worked at Russell where she focused on providing total plan solutions to medium sized UK pension funds. Hannah has also worked at PIMCO and BlackRock, where her responsibilities were designing LDI and broader solutions for pension funds. Hannah started her career at Watson Wyatt and has a degree in Actuarial Science, from the London School of Economics.

19.00 - 19.25 Matthew Harrison, MD, Lincoln Pensions
Matthew is a Managing Director of Lincoln Pensions. He joined in December 2014 following eight years as a senior member of the Employer Covenant Advisory business at EY. Matt is a Chartered Accountant and is qualified to act as an insolvency practitioner. Matt advises schemes with multinational listed sponsors as well as those which are reliant on privately owned UK businesses. He has extensive experience in advising pension trustees with respect to corporate transactions and scheme funding matters. Matt works with some of Lincoln's largest and most complex pension scheme clients and is responsible for the firm's marketing activity around schemes whose asset values range from GBP200m to GBP750m.



19.25 - 19.40 John Stannard, Director, Capital Cranfield

With over 30 years' experience as investment adviser and investment manager, John's pension trustee roles include Investment Committee Chair for a major UK retailer and Chair of Trustees for an Industry Association. Other non-exec roles include Independent Trustee for the Mercer Master Trust and Non-executive Board Chair of UBS Asset Management Life. John joined from Russell Investments, managing GBP30 billion of manager-of-manager assets in Europe. Senior roles there included Head of Client Advisory, Manager-of-Manager Client Service, and Fiduciary Management operations. John was a Trustee of Russell's UK DC scheme. He was Global Chair for the CFA Institute Board of Governors, the (GIPS) Investment Performance Council and Russell/Mellon Analytics. The CFA Institute awarded John the Daniel Forestall III Leadership Award.
